BLUE MARCH: COLORECTAL CANCER SCREENING MONTH

Posted on 03/19/2018

Every year, March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, run by the French Ministry of Health and the INCA, with the aim of raising awareness among the general public and healthcare professionals of the importance of screening.

Colorectal cancer, or cancer of the colon-rectum, affects around 40,000 people in France every year. It is responsible for almost 18,000 deaths a year.

However, if detected early, colorectal cancer can be cured in 9 out of 10 cases.

Detecting this cancer is now easier thanks to the immunological test. This quick and effective test can be carried out at home. It is aimed at women and men aged between 50 and 74, who are invited every 2 years to discuss colorectal cancer screening with their doctor. The doctor will check that the patient is not at particular risk of developing colorectal cancer, and will then give them the home screening test.
