The ophthalmology department at the Clinique Juge is equipped with a 3D INGENUITY, a 1st in France

Posted on 02/19/2018

This "head-up" intraoperative ophthalmology visualisation system is designed for vitreoretinal surgery. It reduces exposure to light from the eye being operated on, and improves the depth and extent of the operating field and the surgeon's ergonomics. A revolution in ophthalmology.

Dr François Devin (Centre Paradis-Monticelli, surgeon at the Clinique Juge in Marseille) explains:

First of all, what influence has digital imaging had on the practice of your speciality?

Dr François Devin: "The arrival of digital technology has profoundly changed the performance of the imaging involved in ophthalmological diagnosis over the last 2 decades. Up until now, these developments had only very rarely made their way into the operating theatre. The optical surgical microscope, undoubtedly the most important tool for eye surgery, had remained fundamentally unchanged for 50 years".

You say that with the arrival of L'INGENUITY 3D, your speciality is taking an important step forward. Why is that?

Doctor F. D: "We now have a 3-dimensional digital display system, coupled with a high-speed graphics processing computer and a 3D screen (which reproduces images in real time and in very high definition). With 3D glasses, the depth of field reaches levels that were previously unattainable with optical systems, making it easier to dissect each tissue layer.

The INGENUITY 3D visualisation system enables surgeons to increase magnification while maintaining a wide field of vision, thanks to luminous digital filters that enhance contrast.

This new system makes it easier for care teams to immerse themselves in the surgical procedure and anticipate how it will unfold. In terms of sharing knowledge and teaching, this method of intra-operative visualisation is unrivalled.

Finally, the sensitivity of theINGENUITY 3Ddisplay system minimises exposure to light in the patient's eye, reducing the risk of light trauma. This surgery with less light causes less dazzle and improves patient comfort.
